Eligibility and visa

Eligibility

Completion of an ACGME-accredited DR residency in the US or abroad, and ABR board certification/eligibility at the start of training.

International applicants

ABR grants one year of credit toward DR board eligibility for foreign medical graduates completing the fellowship; ECFMG certificate if applicable.

Visa support

Institution policyUC Health requires incoming trainees entering the US for the first time to be J-1 (ECFMG) eligible; no new H-1B sponsorship since October 2025, but H-1B transfers from other institutions accepted

Institution policyOhio permanent medical licence or State Medical Board of Ohio training certificate required; USMLE Step 3 required for entry at PGY-4 or above
